The Group at the Start of Fantastic Voyage

Oley Valley Cycling

The Group is a very loose bunch of family and friends who gather to share a ride; either at the annual group ride or at other organized events. The club rides and my many solo rides take place in the mostly flat and historic Oley Valley of Berks County, PA. There are no rules for our rides, just to have fun. No helmuts required, charge no fees. A recent article in the Reading Eagle, regards riding in the valley can be found here. My Story Bucks County Covered Bridge Ride I am Guy, aka Larry, retired, over 65, a bit plump and have completed my sixth year of cycling for exercise and weight lost. I rode a nice all steel, balloon tyre RollFast in my youth. Like so many before me, the bicycle gathered dust the day I brought home my first car. Well now the body is in sad shape, and I've become type 2 diabetic. I set a personal annual record of 3022 miles in 2009, but lost little weight. My test kitchen was baking too many apple cakes. Now that I'm fully moved into the new house in the Oley Valley, I thought I could go for a new mileage record. Unfortunately "fixing up" the old house for sale and moving a couple of seniors into assisted living has put a big dent in that quest. Not to mention the wettest year on record for SE Pennsylvania, just rained out too many ride days. I only managed to get rained on twice. Finished 2011 with 2620 miles. The big goal for 2012 has got to be sell the old house. I have at this time no mileage goals, just ride. My main ride is a bike of my own construction I built February 2007, I call a BierHaus Bertolette road bike. Named after Bertolet Mill Road that I spend alot of time on. I also completed in summer 2009 a cyclocross bike l built for riding the limestone trails, primarily the Schuylkill River Trail. I called this model a BierHaus SRT. I think this officially makes me a bike manufacture.
